    Background

Beantown Pastrami Company (BPC) was recently formed to make and sell specialty sandwiches by using old world style delicatessen methods, such as steaming, slow roasting and hand carving. BPC is different from most sandwich providers because all the main ingredients are from New England and are not chemically preserved. Using the skills of an old time carver, each food server is trained to artfully turn a large piece of meat or turkey into a moist and sumptuous sandwich. Everything from the bread, cheese, coleslaw and baked beans are freshly made using century-old techniques. If time travelers arrived from the 1800's in New England, they would feel right at home.

    Acton, MA

    George Howell Coffee

    312 School Street

    Acton, MA 01720

    617-777-2217

    Background

Founded in 2004 by veteran coffee pioneer George Howell, George Howell Coffee seeks out the finest single-estate and single-origin coffees on earth from top quality farmers, roasts to precision, and above all, aims to deliver the ultimate cup of coffee to our customers. Farmers are our partners. Behind every cup of coffee there is a farm with growers who share the same drive and dedication for their craft as we do. In an effort to nurture these relationships, George and his daughter Jenny travel yearly to many of the farms as well as other coffee producing areas.

These top-quality coffees are only harvested once a year. George pioneered freezing green coffee in order to halt the raw beans’ natural aging process at their peak of maturity and preserve their natural sweetness. Storage of raw green coffee is essential to maintaining the freshest-tasting coffee all year long, and because of it, we’re able to offer the unique experience of exceptional vintages.

George Howell Coffee operates three Boston-area cafes as well as our roastery located in Acton, MA. We host weekly educational and interactive classes at the cafes, offer brewing equipment demos and purchasing, and have over 30 different coffees to brew at home. Coffee, brewers, scales, mugs, grinders, and more are available to purchase at our cafes or on our website. Along with our full-time coffees we also offer Limited Roasts: rare and exceptional lots that are roasted in small batches and change weekly.

    Products

Coffee and espresso drinks made with freshly roasted small batch single estate and single origin coffee, as well as a wide selection of retail beans for home brewing.

    Hearth & Hug Bakery

    100 Hanover Street

    Boston, MA 02108

    Background

The concept for Hearth & Hug Bakery began many years ago, when our owner’s family read her the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. As a child, she was so enchanted by the idea of fantastic sweets (and an entirely edible chocolate room), that she vowed to be the most magical of chocolatiers when she grew up. Her love of chocolate soon led her to discover the world of baking, and her enthusiasm for the craft has never waned since. While she eventually learned that the magic of Willy Wonka’s factory existed only in fiction, she found that there was a different kind of enchantment that came with baking; the pure joy and happiness that a good pastry can bring to people. She then decided to spread as much of that joy as she could by going to culinary school and opening a bakery. In 2023, the opportunity arose, and Natalie Hug was able to start Hearth & Hug Bakery.

This bakery is a culmination of years of trial, error, home and professional kitchen experience, and most of all, love. We are so happy to finally be able to share that love with you!

Laurel received her master’s degree in Gastronomy from Boston University where she studied how deeply rooted food is in our cultural and individual identities. Food has always factored heavily in her favorite memories of time spent with her family and painting is the perfect way to capture memories like eating oysters in Rhode Island and enjoying ice cream on the beach.

Laurel Greenfield is also a teacher and helps newer painters get their vision from their head to the canvas so they can uncover their unique style. Her painting motto is “tools over rules” and she believes all any artist needs are the tools to bring their unique vision to life. She teaches workshops online and in person at the market.

Recently, Laurel has also brought her taste for vibrancy to the walls of the Market in several ways. A sampling of her large scale art featuring favorite Market vendors can be found across from Bagel Guild. Additionally, Laurel helped to curate a new installation across from Perillas featuring a wide variety of styling and subjects from other local, New England-based artists across several mediums.

    Background

Spencer Peterman is always on the lookout for fallen trees rotting in the woods. Hidden in those fallen trees, especially the ones covered by moss and dirt, is a second life. Peterman magically brings local wood that would have normally been discarded, chipped, or used for firewood back to life in the form of bowls, serving boards, salad tossers, and other farmhouse kitchenware products. New England gives us a variety of hardwoods to work with like Cherry, Black Walnut, Spalted and Ambrosia Maple, and Cherry Burls! Michele created a food-safe milk paint for our oak bowls which we call the White Pearl and Driftwood collection. We designed and engineered our own lathe that could produce not only a more natural and rough-edge bowl, but one that could create multiple bowls out of a solid log. Our custom lathe is designed so that there is little to no waste while making bowls. A Spencer Peterman signature!

Partners in both life and business, Spencer and Michele met in the late 90s. At the time, Michele owned a successful pottery business and Spencer made a living weaving Nantucket baskets. After Spencer transitioned to woodworking, Michele joined the Peterman’s team, bringing along her business acumen and organizational skills. We are honored to share our rich history of farmhouse kitchens, wooden bowls, and craftsmanship with you. Come visit us at the main gallery in Gill, MA or our Boston location at the Boston Public Market in the heart of Downtown.
